By selecting a defensive specimen in Alex Sarr, the Washington Wizards hope their rebuild has officially come to an end. They have spent numerous years crafting a well-rounded roster through the draft, free agency, and trade market. With the help of Sarr, among several others, Washington is in peak shape to compete for a spot in the play-in tournament.

Heading into draft day, the Wizards front office viewed Sarr as a generational talent. Although he needs to improve offensively, the French big man moves extremely well at seven feet. He is excellent at defending the perimeter, with a habit of contesting every shot attempted around the rim. This fills a significant hole in the game plan of head coach Brian Keefe.

With the addition of Jonas Valančiūnas, the Wizards will work to develop Sarr’s scoring on all three levels. The potential is evident, but the footwork and patience require adjustments. Valančiūnas, being a 12-year veteran, will provide a simple path for Sarr to succeed in the NBA.

It won’t be long before Alex Sar proves to the Wizards front office that he is a superstar in the making.

Through the first year with Alex Sarr, Wizards fans will witness constant signs of superstar potential. He is absurdly talented on both ends, proving why he was ranked the best player in the draft. However, through moments of weakness, the coaching staff must cooperate with Sarr on improving one day at a time.

The summer league was the first real opportunity for Sarr to gain confidence from the fans. Though a presence was capitalized on defense, the rising star struggled to score the ball efficiently. Sarr averaged just 5.5 points in 29.6 minutes, shooting 19.1% from the field.

Conversely, Sarr showcased a tight handle and the ability to attempt difficult shots from beyond the arc. These attributes overpower summer league statistics, as the developmental staff understands what needs to be enhanced.

By the end of the season, Sarr will inevitably have found a groove on both ends of the court. He must take advantage of his experience by creating counters to the different defensive schemes posed by opponents. If the second-overall pick commits himself to the game, he will soon be in a position to sign a long-term deal with the city of Washington.
