With all the movement in the Power 5 Conferences right now, and the SEC, Big 12 and Big Ten adding more and more powerhouses, what can the ACC do to compete in the Football Program Sweepstakes? The answer is nothing. But there is one way they can gain an advantage over the rest of the NCAA Conferences, and that is Basketball.
It’s no shock that the ACC will not be able to compete in Football, and they are likely to lose Clemson and Miami, but they still have the advantage in Basketball. The ACC is home to some of the top College Basketball Programs in the country, such as Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, and more that are very competitive teams. They already have the foundation of a truly dominant Basketball Conference.
Who to add?

The ACC should just give up on the football thing, and fully commit to bringing in the top Basketball Programs in the country. This include schools like Gonzaga, who plays in a very weak conference already and could look to improve their competition and recruiting. They could see if they could snag teams like Arizona from the sinking Pac-12, Villanova from the Big East, who did this exact thing before, and then see if you could steal any Basketball oriented teams from the SEC, Big Ten or Big 12 like Purdue, Kentucky, or Texas Tech.
This could give the ACC one of the most dominant basketball conferences we have ever seen. The matchups would bring in exponentially more viewership and more money, they would dominate the tournament, Guaranteed to have at least one team in the Championship almost every year. There would be no true competition for the ACC.
Now, there is a reason I am here writing and not running a Power 5 Conference, but on the surface, I don’t see why they shouldn’t take advantage of this opportunity that has been presented to them.
