Following the departure of Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, Washington quarterback Will Rogers has reentered the transfer portal to potentially find a new home. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Will Rogers Leaving Washington
Rogers was set to become the successor to Michael Penix Jr. at Washington. The Huskies are coming off their first-ever National Championship appearance in the College Football Playoff era. Things were looking bright for Washington until Nick Saban’s retirement. Alabama acted quickly and snatched up DeBoer after a few other options fell through.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, there is a chance he stays with Washington in the end. But the senior QB will be entering the portal to keep his options open.
Will Rogers Career at Mississippi State
Games Played: 43
Total Passing Stats: 1,876 Att, 69.3%, 12,315 Yds, 94 TD, 28 INT
Total Rushing Stats: 165 Att, -316 Yds, 2 TD
Will Rogers was one of the hottest commodities in the transfer portal, and for good reason. His numbers in the SEC are extremely impressive. He ranks second all-time in total passing yards and holds the most career completions in SEC history. He enjoyed his best years in Mike Leach’s Air Raid but struggled this season under Zach Arnett.
Will Rogers Potential Destinations
Alabama
Could Rogers follow DeBoer to Alabama? I think there could be a chance it happens. The Crimson Tide secured a commitment from 5-star QB Julian Sayin this past recruiting cycle, but they might be interested in a veteran signal-caller like Rogers in DeBoer’s first year on the job.
Washington
As Matt Zenitz reports, there is a possibility he sticks around depending on who they hire.
Michigan
Michigan is coming off of a National Championship and could look to keep that window open with a QB like Rogers. With JJ McCarthy entering the NFL Draft, the move could make sense as long as Jim Harbaugh remains with the Wolverines.
