With Michael Penix Jr headed to the NFL, the Washington Huskies needed a new QB. They could have stayed in-house but Dylan Morris had already announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. One target outside of the Washington program has been Will Rogers and per ESPN’s Pete Thamel he’s transferring to the PNW.

Rogers has only one year of eligibility left, so the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies are in the same situation. He was productive in the air-raid system under Mike Leach. With a similar high-octane offense, Washington seemed like a perfect destination for Will Rogers. In 2021 he threw for over 4,700 yards and nearly 4,000 yards the following year. The four year starter had become the career leader in passing touchdowns for the Bulldogs with 94 total.

He has been one of the most solid quarterbacks in the SEC. Most certainly, one of the most accomplished in SEC history. He finished second all-time in passing yards in the SEC. With a solid season at UW, he could end up in the Top 10 of All-time College Football Passing yards. This is not the first time that the Huskies have landed a QB from the transfer portal. When Kalen DeBoer took the job in 2021, he looked to the portal and found Penix. That story is history, Penix revived his career. He was named a finalist for the 2023 Heisman Award and still has the Huskies in the College Football Playoff with a 13-0 record.

Rogers is going to help the Huskies transition into the Big Ten. It’s a solid recruitment for DeBoer and the Huskies. If Rogers stays healthy, he could put up a similar season to the one that Penix Jr. has had.
