The Bruins’ true freshman quarterback Dante Moore plans to enter the transfer portal when opens on Monday, Dec. 4. Matt Zenitz of 24/7 Sports was the first to report the news.
Moore played in nine games this season and threw for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns against 9 interceptions while completing 53.5% of his passes. UCLA finished with a bowl-eligible, 7-5 season. Though they finished the season with a 33-7 loss to rival California Golden Bears. Early reports suggested that the Bruins would fire Chip Kelly, but it now appears that he’ll be around for another season.
Coming out of high school, Dante Moore was a five-star recruit who was originally committed to going to Oregon. At the last minute, he changed that commitment to UCLA. That move came on the heels of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kenny Dillingham becoming the head coach at Arizona State.
Moore will join a list of quarterbacks who have already been reported to enter the transfer portal. Though with his five-star recruit status, Dante Moore is likely to be a hot commodity for teams looking for a quarterback.
“For these next upcoming years, I just want to go to a place where I can get developed,” Moore told 247Sports. “That’s the main thing is really development, making sure you’re bettering yourself every day and having a staff around you that’s going to help develop you. So I’d say the biggest things are going to a place where I can get developed and continue to love and have fun playing football and be around a place that loves college football and be around great athletes.”
It’s likely that Moore may have needed some development before starting at a Power-five conference. Moore eventually lost the starting job to Ethan Garbers. That was until the last game of the season. The most notable names heading into Monday are DJ Uiagalelei, Riley Leonard, Grayson McCall and K.J. Jefferson. Dante Moore is likely to be the most touted.
