Dante Moore, the now former UCLA Bruin quarterback, transfers to Oregon to be the Duck’s future quarterback after one year of newly transferred quarterback Dillon Gabriel, the former Oklahoma Sooner.
Moore was the starter for the Bruins, but Ethan Garbers seemed to be taking over near the end of his tenure with Chip Kelly and UCLA.
Dante Moore is an unfinished product, as he is a former five-star prospect with a big upside and a plus arm than most quarterbacks. A fresh start may be what Moore needs, especially with Kelly not trusting Moore down the stretch of a disappointing season for the Bruins. Even Collin Schlee and Chase Griffin got reps near the end of the season, against Arizona State, so that diminished Moore’s confidence on top of Garbers.
Moore most likely will have to sit behind Dillon Gabriel to start his career unless the Oklahoma product struggles early on or is flustered by injuries. Rightfully so, as Gabriel has proven to be a winner with Oklahoma, as they defeated Texas in their rivalry game this year with ease.
Moore can learn from head coach Dan Lanning and Dillon Gabriel and be ready to compete for the starting job in the 2024-25 season. Something to look forward to is that Lanning has fixed a lot of products, including Bo Nix and Justin Herbert. Especially Nix, because he was nothing after Auburn and Oregon made him a Heisman candidate.
Oregon is thought to be a national powerhouse, either in tier two or tier one, so Moore will have his hands full with this offense but on a positive note, Oregon has the offensive weapons and coaches to compete and put Moore in the best position possible. Transferring to the Big Ten also gives Moore added responsibility because the Big Ten will be the best conference top to bottom in the nation, adding USC, Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon.
That will bolster the Duck’s chance for a playoff appearance in the expanded 12-team playoffs starting in 2024. Moore is a product to be fixed, but a product that can be fixed by one of the best, Dan Lanning. If Dante Moore transfers to another school, it may not of been looked as beneficial as Oregon could be.
