After helping the Chiefs win two Super Bowls, a veteran pass rusher is going to a division rival. Frank Clark has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos. The deal could be worth up to $7.5 million, including a $5.5 million base salary that is guaranteed.

Frank Clark, who will turn 30 on Wednesday, was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on March 1st after failed negotiations with his agent, Erik Burkhardt on a restructured contract. His old age and his big salary cap number were the main factors behind the decision to release him. Despite making two pro bowls, Clark’s production has been slowly declining ever since he joined the Chiefs, as his sacks have decreased every season. In 2022, he had five sacks, and a forced fumble. He mostly peaked in the playoffs as he has the third most total sacks in postseason history with 13.5 sacks

Clark was asked why he chose to come to Denver; “The situation with Sean Payton is good for me. I get to play alongside Randy Gregory and stay in my division that I am very familiar with. I also want to help the Broncos get back to the mountain top”.

What will Clark Add?

Clark will be adding depth to the pass rush room with lots of untapped potentials. Randy Gregory who is injured-prone, only played 18 games the past two seasons. Baron Browning who has not participated in the on-field work in OTAs, recently had arthroscopic knee surgery. Clark will likely step in and take most of the reps if one of those guys isn’t ready for the start of the season and all are fully healthy, he would be a great third-down pass rusher. It helps that he has inside knowledge of the Chiefs’ offense and how to gameplan against Patrick Mahomes. Will see if “Mr. February” can help the Broncos get back to the postseason.
