Following, the season it appeared the Twins may be headed for a rebuild. Carlos Correa attempted to sign with both the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets. While the Twins traded Gio Urshela and Luis Arraez. For the In-Depth Minnesota Twins 2023 Preview, watch below:
On August 1 last year, the Twins were clinging to a one-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. They proceeded to trade for starter Tyler Mahle as well as relievers Jorge López and Michael Fulmer. The idea was that the moves would propel this team into a win-now mode where they could contend for the championship. However, it didn’t play out that way as the Twins fell out of postseason contention entirely, finishing 24-36 after August 1.
The Twins traded American League batting champ Luis Arraez for highly sought-after starting pitcher Pablo Lopez. The Twins front office also acquired outfielder Joey Gallo and catcher Christian Vasquez. There’s a few questions surrounding Gallo as to whether he can stay healthy and bounce back from two devastating seasons. The former gold glover has never been known for hitting above the Mendoza line, but he can provide some power to this lineup.
We have the Twins finishing with an improvement based off their record from last season. They might even contend for the AL Central Division title. Though, it’s going to come between them, the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox.
