With many playoff-like matchups, the best of the best displayed their talents as Jokic recorded another tripe-double, and Garland scored 32 points.
Nuggets Keep Rolling
Totaling the most points on the night, the Denver Nuggets took down the Golden State Warriors in a 134-117 victory. Nuggets guard Jamal Murray had 33 points, five rebounds, and eight assists as Murray had his first back-to-back 30-point game of the season. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic had another triple-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 16 assists. The Nuggets are 17-0 when Jokic records a triple-double and remain the best in the Western Conference. The Warriors didn’t struggle to score without guard Klay Thompson as guards Stephen Curry and Jordan Poole scored 20+ points, but the Warriors struggled on the defensive end, allowing a field goal of 57%.
Luka Does Luka Things
The Dallas Mavericks were up big in the second half against a struggling New Orleans Pelicans team. However, it would all change when Mavericks guard Luka Doncic exited the game with an apparent ankle injury and wouldn’t return. Doncic’s final stat line in only 23 minutes played was 31 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Once Doncic left the game, the Pelicans attempted a comeback only to fall short in a 111-106 loss. The Pelicans have lost 10 in a row after being atop the Western Conference and missing their All-Star forward Zion Williamson due to injury.
Garland Puts on a Show
In an intriguing matchup, the Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Memphis Grizzlies and protected their home court with a 128-113 victory. The play of guard Darius Garland as he had 32 points, 11 assists, shot 11-19 from the field and 4-6 from three. Garland stepped up as All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell was ejected after a shuffle with Grizzlies guard Dillion Brooks. Mitchell finished with six points and only shot 2-11 from the field. The Cavaliers remain a solid contender in the Eastern Conference, as the Cavaliers have one of the best all-around rosters in the NBA.
