As we approach the NFL trade deadline, NFL teams will look to buy in an effort to better their team at the eleventh hour. The Green Bay Packers are no exception. The 3-4 Packers are linked to a pair of veteran wide receivers in the form of AJ Green and Brandin Cooks.
Former Cincinnati Bengals superstar AJ Green is currently buried on the Cardinals roster. Green has 56 receiving yards on 164 routes this season as well as 0.34 yards per route run. At 34 years old, he is well past his prime. However, he finished with 848 yards on 54 receptions just last year and was a vital part of the Cardinals’ offense. But with a few younger players coming into their own as well as DeAndre Hopkins returning, Green is on the outside looking in. Perhaps the Cardinals would find more use for Green in the form of draft picks.
Brandin Cooks is a veteran who could add some consistency to the Packers’ wide receiver room. He is a talented veteran who finds himself on a rebuilding Houston Texans team however, Cooks, like Green, is experiencing a down year. Many feel it’s due to struggling QB Davis Mills. Perhaps a change of scenery is needed to kickstart the dynamic receiver’s year.
Green and Cooks will most likely not be the only receiver trade rumors surrounding the Packers. The Packers are currently dealing with many receiver injuries while working the rookies into the offense. They went all in on the season but are nowhere near where they wanted to be. As a result, there are not a lot of funds to give out. Look for them to make a move for a cheaper veteran or receiver still on their rookie contract.
