Did we really think Tom Brady was going to be the best player to step on the gridiron? Maybe your answer was 100% yes, but that shouldn’t be the case much longer now that there is a not-so-new face to make his fourth Super Bowl in the last six years. Patrick Mahomes is coming off arguably his worst year since becoming the starter for Kansas City, but did exactly what a G.O.A.T does; win when it matters most.

I would bet that not a single person would’ve thought there would be any player to leave a legacy as great as Brady did, and to be honest I didn’t either, however Mahomes is on track to soar past him. In just Mahomes’s sixth season as a starter he has made the AFC Championship every single time while leading the Chiefs squad to 80% win percentage. The only other player to come anywhere close to those state was Brady where he made the conference championship 4/6 years with a 74.4% win rate.
Listen, it’s a different era than it was twenty years ago where quarterbacks stood in the pocket all game and delivered balls, but that can’t be an excuse for what the game has turned into. Not only has Mahomes torched defenses within the pocket, but what makes him so special is what he does with his legs. Arguably he is more of a threat outside the pocket where he has the ability to run for a first down or find receivers across the field while getting chased by 300 pound men. His ability to create something out of nothing is what makes him a winner.
What Makes a G.O.A.T
There will always be people to debate what makes a someone the Greatest Of All Time whether it’s completely stat based or how much they have won straight up, but it takes more than that. Obviously numbers and championships are what must be looked at to be considered as the best, but what about the the plays and the games that make you say “how they heck did he just do that?” Or not being surprised when you see the same player over and over again sitting at the top of the leader board year after year? Or getting so frustrated seeing that player deep into the playoffs and hoping a team you don’t even like beats them because you’re tired of it? Patrick Mahomes has fallen into every one of those categories since he got drafted back in 2017 and he knows it saying “I can be that villain for them if they need me to be”, when talking about opposing teams’ fanbases.
By The Numbers
But if you do want to look at the numbers be my guest because Mahomes’s 24,241 passing yards, 192 touchdowns, and 105.7% completion rate are all more than Brady in his first six seasons as a starter. Oh and his 80% win percentage also surpasses Brady.
I’m not here to bash what Tom Brady did to the world of football, but it’s time people start discussing the big possibility of Patrick Mahomes going down as the G.O.A.T in National Football League history if he keep this up especially If he wins his third super bowl before his seventh season in the NFL.
