Atlanta Braves slugger, Ronald Acuna Jr., is on pace for a 40-40 season in 2023. A 40-40 is when a player hits 40 home runs and steals 40 bases in the same season. The absolute elite levels of raw power and speed is a rare one in baseball, especially at the MLB level. Thus making this coveted milestone very rare to see. However, Acuna Jr. is having an incredible season, and could potentially join the club.
Major League Baseball has not seen a player have a 40-40 season since Alfonso Soriano in 2006. The 40-40 club is a rather small one. The club currently only has four members total, with the members including: Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998), and Alfonso Soriano (2006).
With only four more games until the midway point of the 2023 season, Ronald Acuna Jr. is absolutely mashing. After Sunday’s win against the Reds, Acuna is hitting .328/.402/.561 for a league-leading .962 OPS. As for the hunt for the 40-40 season, he currently sits at 16 home runs and a whopping 35 stolen bases. He is without a doubt going to reach 40 stolen bases in 2023. However, he will need to hit 24 home runs throughout the remainder of the season.
Joining the 40-40 club is definitely possible for the young slugger, Acuna Jr.. If he is able to bring home the title, there is also a good chance he will secure major MVP votes, as well. For now, the Braves are sitting comfortably in first place in the NL East with a record of 50-27. Not only is Acuna putting up numbers for himself, but he is also contributing to this stacked Braves lineup.
