Steelers in on Chase Young
Scott Taetsch, USA TODAY Sports

It’s the middle of June which means two things for the NFL. The heart of the NFL offseason is over and all free agents/trade block players are on their new teams for next year. However, not every player found their new home yet, and not every team is satisfied with their current roster. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Chase Young of the Washington Commanders fall into these categories. Consequently, that’s exactly why the black and gold are reportedly in hot pursuit of the edge defender.

Despite only having around $15 million in remaining salary cap, the Steelers are looking to bring in Young per Jeff Hartman. Many believe Washinton is shopping Young following declining Young’s fifth year option back on April 26. Young hasn’t been as productive as his rookie year after suffering a torn ACL in his sophomore year. In his rookie season, he looked like a budding star after posting 7.5 sacks and winning the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award. However, in the past two years, the injury limited him to 12 games. His production in those games weren’t even close to that in his first year with 1.5 sacks since. The interest is there, but it’s up to the Steelers, Commanders, and ultimately Chase Young to get it done.

According to the same source, the Steelers are on the opposite end of the interest spectrum for Dalvin Cook. The former Minnesota Vikings running back will be looking for a new team following his release. With the young tandem of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren showing promise, it’s easy to see why.
