Justin FIelds

Six days into NFL Free Agency, Pittsburgh General Manager Omar Khan has put his stamp on the NFL. Last year the Steelers had average players at quarterback, now early into the new league year they have signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields.

Since future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired in 2021, the Steelers still can’t find his replacement. During that span from 2021-2023, they only made the playoffs once.

However, they have still found a way to keep head coach Mike Tomlin’s winning record still alive.

Trading For Justin Fields

Saturday evening, the Steelers traded a sixth-round pick (could turn into fourth round depending on playtime) for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

For a move that shouldn’t be all too surprising to NFL fans, it is still a jaw-dropping move.

Fields who is an incredible athlete who has very big potential as a franchise quarterback in the NFL, has yet to showcase his talents like he did at Ohio State.

In addition, Fields has yet to be surrounded by a coaching staff that can develop players. For part of the first two seasons Fields wasn’t given a fair chance to succeed.

After a career year in Chicago, that led to winning seven games the Bears wanted to move off Fields. Which NFL draft experts believe they will be drafting Caleb Williams.

This trade can wind up changing the Steelers future at quarterback for the next eight years. Fields can now develop correctly in Pittsburgh under an organization that is known for stability.

Russell Wilson Signs in Pittsburgh

Alongside he can learn from one of the best of this generation Russell Wilson who was signed earlier this week. Wilson who already is a Super Bowl winning quarterback, he is by far the best option to mentor Fields.

Wilson coming off a great year showed that if he can play above average and the defense is elite, that team can have a chance to win.

General Manager Omar Khan isn’t just focusing on the offensive side as he turned his attention to the defense as well. Steelers signed Patrick Queen on Tuesday, alongside Deshon Elliott on Friday.

Lastly, by the end of the draft we could potentially be talking about the Steelers as the favorites to contend with Kansas City.
