
The Anaheim Ducks had a comeback win with the final score of 5-3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Thursday. The Ducks were down 3-0 after the first. So far this season both teams are having a rough time winning games and getting points. The Blue Jackets are last in the league while the Ducks are two spots ahead and 30th in the league.
Period 1 Recap
The Anaheim Ducks started with backup goalie Anthony Stolarz in the net. The Ducks played tonight without rookie Mason McTavish who is the team’s first-line center while he was out with a lower-body injury. Just two minutes into the game Mathieu Olivier was able to get one past Stolarz and put the Blue Jackets up 1-0. This gave Olivier his third goal of the season. Throughout this period the Columbus Blue Jackets dominated. At the six-minute mark into the game, Jack Roslovic scored giving him his fourth goal and the team a 2-0 lead. In addition, almost 18 minutes into the period Nick Blankenburg who recently came back from an injury was able to give Columbus a 3-0 lead into the second period.
Anaheim Ducks Comeback
During the first period, Stolarz was able to make 15 saves but the Ducks put in goalie John Gibson to start the second period. This is when the Ducks started dominating. Adam Henrique was able to score just 22 seconds in. This put Henrique at 16 goals on the season. Defensemen Cam Fowler and Simon Benoit scored two minutes apart which meant Anaheim was able to tie the game. At the end of the second period, it was 3-3.
The game went from what most fans thought would be an easy loss to a game that could easily be won. The Ducks keep the momentum and Trevor Zegras was able to score giving the Ducks their first lead of the game. With just five minutes left into the game, Max Jones sealed the game for the Ducks and made the score 5-3. This gave Anaheim their first win in 13 days.
With tonight’s win, John Gibson moved into second place on the Ducks for all-time wins.
