After two failed physicals and weeks of concerns surrounding Carlos Correa, it appears he may be headed back to Minnesota.
The reported deal is for six years and worth $200 million. The deal includes a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. Correa played in 136 games for the Twins last season after signing a one-year deal. He then opted for free agency and attempted to sign a contract with the San Francisco Giants. After a failed physical, the Giants backed out of the deal. Correa then attempted to sign with the New York Mets, who also have had concerns with the physical. Now three weeks later, the Twins have re-signed the star shortstop, with a physical pending.
The vesting option in the contract is worth a seventh year and $25 million if Carlos Correa records 502 plate appearances in year six. That total value can then increase to $245 million if he gets an eighth year.
Crazy Offseason
Correa has been part of the craziest offseason that the MLB has probably ever seen. It’s all because of an injured ankle from last season too. However, it appears that part of the physical has been passed in the eyes of the Twins. So as of now, there is nothing stopping the return.
This is breaking news. More to come.
