It’s been a long journey for Ty Thompson, who’s been with Oregon since 2021, a backup to top-tier Oregon Quarterbacks like Anthony Brown and Bo Nix. He entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason and after several visits to Oregon State, Iowa, and many other destinations. The former Oregon QB, Ty Thompson, has committed to a Group of five team, Tulane. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the news.
The Green Wave have been a team on the rise of the last several seasons. In the last two years, they’ve finished as high as ninth in the AP Polls. They’ll be losing their quarterback, Michael Pratt, to the NFL in the spring. Now they have his replacement. Thompson appeared in 17 games over three seasons at Oregon but had never developed into a starter. In those 17 games, Thompson attempted 66 passes for 42 completions, 456 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. Most of that run came in the last year where he had 11 more pass attempts than any other season. Those results were positive, as he completed 77 percent of his passes for 297 yards, four touchdowns, and only one interception.
His announcement to enter the portal came after Oregon went back to the transfer portal to land a QB. Now, Oregon has gained both Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore from the portal as they head to the BIG 10 next season.
Ty Thompson would immediately be poised to become the next starter at Tulane. He’ll join a quarterback room that currently has redshirt sophomores Kai Horton and Justin Ibieta. Both of whom saw some snaps in the Military Bowl, Horton went 13/20 and threw for 119 yards. Adding 21 yards on the ground over 9 carries. Ibieta missed the one pass attempt that he had thrown.
