The Kansas City Chiefs have won Super Bowl LVII, but gamblers have set their eyes on next year’s Super Bowl odds, and the reigning champs find themselves on the top.
It shouldn’t be a major surprise for the Chiefs to be comfortable favorites. Typically, the two super bowl teams have the best odds of returning, but the Eagles have the third best odds to win next year. Once again the Buffalo Bills are getting a lot of love.
One of the favorites that stands out is the San Francisco 49ers who sit at +900 to win the big one. They are the only team in the top five with a question mark at quarterback. Trey Lance is expected to be the starter, but with the success of rookie seventh-rounder Brock Purdy, there could be a training camp competition in place.
Long-shots
The Baltimore Ravens at +1600 is also interesting because of the quarterback situation. Lamar Jackson should return as the starter, but given his health and contract situation, that forces them to have longer odds.
The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets both have long odds that largely depend on one guy – Aaron Rodgers. If Rodgers doesn’t retire, and stays on the Packers, the odds should shorten a fair amount. If the Jets trade for him or another suitable quarterback, expect their odds to improve as well.
The Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams find themselves at +3000. This seems strange with the fact that head coach Sean McVay already committed to returning in 2023. Aaron Donald also confirmed he’d be back, while Matthew Stafford rehabs his injury, but plans to return healthy. The Rams could be a sneaky good bet at this number with the talented roster and coaching staff they obtain.
Among other teams with long odds that deserve some looks include, the New England Patriots +5500, New York Giants +4000, and Las Vegas Raiders +4000.
How to approach these futures
Futures are a very difficult projection to make, but often times they should be bet with caution. Value is the key to the game, and looking for ways to build a portfolio of good futures is the smart way to play it.
Hedging or cashing out of longshot bets can be the key to capitalizing on betting them early. After all, only one of these teams will win the Super Bowl, so finding profit anywhere possible is ideal.
