Damian Lillard continues to show commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers amidst new trade rumors. The Trail Blazers’ front office may be evaluating all options ahead of the draft. They currently own the No. 3 pick and the rumor is they may trade it.
“Not at the start of the season, I don’t believe, as of right now,” said Brian Windhorst on First Take when asked if Lillard would be on a different team when the 23-24 season begins.
“They publicly haven’t sounded like they want to trade him. I can tell you privately the Blazers aren’t interested in trading him right now either,” added Windhorst. “I have to underline ‘right now’ because we’re in a fluid situation.”
Damian Lillard made it clear that he wants the Trail Blazers to improve the roster. They have the ability to build a championship roster with Lillard at the core, but the window of that is closing fast. The 32-year-old is not getting any younger and as we’ve seen over the last two years the injuries have made their way to the Blazers.
“I am hearing nothing,” said Windhorst. “Nothing from the Dame side. Nothing from the Blazers’ side formally that he doesn’t want to be there.”
Another Star to Portland?
Whether, the Blazers will make that trade has yet to be seen. It’s not something that there is a history of doing. A season ago, the Portland Trail Blazers have acquired forward Jerami Grant and the draft rights to Ismael Kamagate from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for the draft rights to Gabriele Procida, a 2025 first-round draft pick (via Milwaukee), a 2025 second-round draft pick and a 2026 second-round draft pick.
There are also some rumors that in any trade for a star, Anfernee Simons might be on his way out as well. Jody Allen may not be ready sell the team anytime soon, but picking up another star or two to pair with Lillard would be the right thing to do.
